The Compost Council of Canada is a national non-profit, member-driven organization with a charter to advocate and advance organics residuals recycling and compost use. It serves as the central resource and network for the compost industry in Canada and, through its members, contributes to the environmental sustainability of the communities in which they operate.

20 Years & Counting !

As we embark towards the year ahead, our plans begin to unfold for our 20th Anniversary Celebrations!

In 1990, when the idea of a nation-wide organization devoted exclusively to organics residuals recovery and compost utilization was just a twinkle in the eyes of many of you, who would have envisioned the journey that you and we have undertaken to stand up for what we believe in ---- the conservation of natural resources that mean our earth to us!

Since then, through you and your compost colleagues' support, the awareness and development of compost infrastructure has been built across Canada. And we have been proud of our Council's ability to support you along the way.

Regulations have developed, compost operator training & certification have been created, public and industry awareness programs have evolved, standards for compost and compostable materials have been introduced and a protocol for compost's positive impact on greenhouse gas emissions is underway. And each year, our collective knowledge base has grown, thanks to each of your efforts and initiatives.

Compost Council of Canada members are well known for their partying (and hard work) abilities. Some of the specific dates to mark in your calendar are as follows:

National Compost Week (our 15th !) … May 2 - 9, 2010

National Compost Conference (the big 20 !) … to be held in
our National Capital, Ottawa, from September 22 - 24, 2010

Thanks for your support. Let the COMPOST PARTY! begin.
