BioCycle gearing up to celebrate 50 Years of Service

In 1960, Jerome Goldstein had a vision. As Executive Editor of Organic Gardening & Farming magazine, he saw first-hand how composting agricultural residuals and returning them to the soil was a winning formula for farmers. He recognized the value of applying that same concept to other organic waste streams. That year, Jerome Goldstein founded Compost Science. The journal reported on composting and recycling of municipal, industrial, institutional and agricultural waste streams. “We believe that converting municipal and industry organic wastes into useful products would be an effective step forward in a long-range conservation program,” he wrote in the journal’s inaugural editorial.

In 1978, Jerry and his family launched The JG Press, Inc., and acquired Compost Science, changing the name to BioCycle in 1981.

On April 27-30, 2009, BioCycle will celebrate 50 years of industry leadership and innovation at the 2009 BioCycle International Conference in San Diego, California. This International Forum features over 50 technical sessions, a tradeshow, hands-on workshops, an Evening Gala and a Celebrating Success Tour.

Our Council and members have benefited greatly from the long-standing efforts of the BioCycle team. We hope that you will try to attend this special BioCycle conference in San Diego.

As well, our Council will be working on a special tribute recognition to the Goldstein family (Shhhh! It’s a secret!). We would welcome receiving good wishes from any and all members so that they can be compiled and delivered to the Goldstein family at the time of their milestone celebration.
