Ontario Trillium Grant

Council receives Ontario Trillium Grant for Plant a Row • Grow a Row JUNIOR

Plant a Row • Grow a Row has extended its food-growing & sharing program with the development of a child-focused teaching initiative, Plant a Row • Grow a Row JUNIOR. Through funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Plant a Row • Grow a Row JUNIOR will reach out to communities throughout Ontario to provide teaching guides, starter kits and promotional support to encourage children and their families to start vegetable gardening.

Plant a Row • Grow a Row JUNIOR kicked off its outreach program at the Communities in Bloom – ONTARIO Awards weekend in September, entertaining the delegates with a veggie-growing puppet show and presentation.

Further development outreach was undertaken through the launch of Soup-a-Licious, a partnership between food guru, Marty Galin, the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, the Township of King and the Holland Marsh Growers Association. Twenty restaurants sampled their specialty soup creations to over 1000 attendees in Bradford on Saturday November 15th. Following soup, a free concert featuring Ashley MacIsaac and The SPOONS entertained the crowd.

Special thanks are extended to Council members who volunteered their time to ensure the day’s success: Christie Cassidy (Walker Industries), Kerri Stevenson, JuAnh Truong-Woods and Janice Carmichael (Gro-Bark) and Barry Friesen.
